A Brief History of Kerivan-Lane, Inc.
Kerivan-Lane, Inc., a plumbing, heating, air conditioning and fuel oil delivery company, has been serving Needham and surrounding towns for more than 90 years.
Founded in 1922 by John J. Kerivan as a plumbing and heating contracting company, Kerivan-Lane provided service to local homeowners and area industries such as Carters, Gamewell and Sherman Paper. At the young age of 42, John Kerivan died, leaving his wife Sarah to run the business for more than a decade until their nephew bought it in 1954. The transition was a smooth one since John R. Lane had been trained by and worked for his uncle for many years. In addition to his work experience, John had a rather unique set of accomplishments, a degree in economics from Harvard College and a master plumber’s license.
As the business grew and expanded into home heating oil delivery, so did his family. Married in 1951, John and Grace Lane were blessed with five children, all of whom have been actively involved in the business at one time or another. John K. Lane, a Boston College graduate, is vice president of the company, an equipment sales representative, a master plumber and oil burner technician and manages the fuel depot operations. Christopher M. Lane, a Boston College graduate, is the general manager and president of the company, a quality control manager, a master plumber and licensed oil burner technician and has served as a State Senator in the Massachusetts State Legislature. Suzanne Lane Bandanza, a Skidmore College graduate, handles the company’s accounting and financial matters as well as its human resources department. Deborah Lane Lesbirel, a Boston College graduate, works in sales support. Katherine Lane Wunder, a Boston College graduate, managed the Depot Store.
Kerivan-Lane lost an invaluable person in November of 1999 when John R. Lane died. After 45 years as president of the company he left big shoes to fill. The business continues to expand and improve. Our online oil futures price monitoring system is groundbreaking technology that gives our customers oil pricing options unparalleled in the industry. All of our mechanics are professionally trained and undergo criminal background checks and periodic drug testing. Our on-site oil storage facility, located at 30 Charles Street, Needham, will provide us with the ability to offer our customers the latest, most cost efficient blended oil/bio fuels in the future as new technologies improve heating oil products.
